The film's whole running joke is built on this one cup: Ralphie drinks Ovaltine every night for weeks to collect proof-of-purchase seals, all to decode a secret message from his radio hero — and the message turns out to be an ad telling him to drink his Ovaltine. "A crummy commercial," Ralphie mutters, and somehow it's still the punchline everyone remembers.
