Una's Turkey Curry Buffet
Serve when
Serve it the way Una does — a groaning buffet table at the New Year's Day party, right as Bridget clocks Mark Darcy across the room in his reindeer jumper.
In the movie
Theatrical
- 00:04:04 Una Alconbury's annual New Year's Day turkey curry buffet: Bridget, hungover and single again, loads a plate as her mother closes in with a blind date — Mark Darcy, reindeer jumper and all.
The turkey curry buffet opens the film and closes the loop on Bridget's whole predicament: a New Year's Day ritual that never changes, at a house where her mother is always one canapé away from another blind date. It's the least romantic possible setting for the story's inciting meeting — Mark Darcy, reindeer jumper and all, introduced over a buffet dish built entirely from Boxing Day leftovers.

Method
- Sweat the onion in the oil over medium heat until soft and gold, about 8 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and ginger, then the curry powder and turmeric, and cook a minute until fragrant — don't let the spices catch.
- Add the tomatoes and stock, bring to a simmer, and cook uncovered 20 minutes until it reduces and deepens in color.
- Stir in the coconut milk and the turkey, and simmer gently another 15–20 minutes until the turkey is heated through and the sauce clings to it. Season with salt.
- Set it out buffet-style in a warmed dish alongside rice, chutney, poppadoms, and a bowl of coriander — guests serve themselves, same as at the Alconburys'.
