Pumpkin Pasties
Serve when
Serve them when the trolley witch slides open the compartment door — 'Anything off the trolley, dears?' — and Harry, rich for the first time, says 'We'll take the lot.'
In the movie
Theatrical
- 00:35:01 The Hogwarts Express sweets trolley: Harry buys one of everything for himself and Ron, and the pile in the compartment includes the wizarding classic — pumpkin pasties.
The trolley scene is Harry's first act of generosity with his new fortune — buying the lot and splitting it with Ron, the moment the two of them become friends. The pasties share the pile with Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans and chocolate frogs, but they're the one trolley sweet a Muggle kitchen can honestly reproduce.
Ingredients
Method
- Stir the pumpkin purée with the brown sugar and spices until smooth.
- Roll the pastry ⅛ inch thick and cut into 5-inch rounds.
- Spoon filling onto one half of each round, brush the edge with egg, fold into a half-moon, and crimp shut with a fork.
- Brush the tops with egg and cut a small steam vent in each. Chill the shaped pasties 15 minutes before baking — cold pastry holds its crimp instead of slumping in the oven.
- Bake at 400°F for 20–25 minutes until deep golden. Best eaten on a train, from a pile of sweets you bought with your own gold.
