3 big scoops best-quality vanilla ice cream (this is where the five dollars goes)
⅓ cup whole milk
1 vanilla bean, scraped (or 2 teaspoons real vanilla)
Pinch of salt

Method

Blend the ice cream, milk, vanilla, and salt just until thick and pourable — a five-dollar shake is never thin.
Pour into a tall chilled soda-fountain glass.
Crown with whipped cream and the cherry.
Two straws optional; don't bring your boss's wife.
