Ingredients

1 blind-baked pie crust
2 cups whole milk
⅔ cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 egg yolks
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 banana, sliced (hold it if you like, per the film)

Method

Whisk the sugar and cornstarch in a saucepan; beat in the egg yolks and milk.
Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the custard holds whisk marks and the first slow bubbles break the surface, 8–10 minutes.
Off heat, stir in the butter and vanilla.
Layer banana slices in the crust (or skip them), then pour the custard over.
Chill until set, at least 4 hours.
