Wonka's river is drinking chocolate at landscape scale — mixed by waterfall, "the only way to do it properly." A mug of proper thick drinking chocolate is the closest legal recreation; the recipe scales up, but keep your balance.

Ingredients

3 cups whole milk
½ cup heavy cream
6 oz dark chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of salt
½ teaspoon vanilla

Method

Heat the milk and cream to steaming.
Whisk in the chocolate, cocoa, sugar, and salt until thick and river-glossy.
Finish with vanilla.
Serve in mugs, not by leaning into the pot. We lost a good man that way.
