Golden Chocolate Eggs
Serve when
Serve them straight off the 'production line' — one golden egg per guest, and let anyone who's been naughty worry about the Eggdicator.
In the movie
Theatrical
- 01:19:43 In the Golden Egg Room, geese laid by machine produce golden chocolate eggs — 'a great delicacy' — which travel down a conveyor to the Eggdicator, a device that judges each egg good or bad and sends the bad ones down a chute. Veruca Salt, demanding a golden goose of her own, is judged 'bad' and sent down the chute herself.
The Golden Egg Room turns Wonka's factory absurdity properly menacing for the first time — the Eggdicator doesn't just judge eggs, it's the machine that decides Veruca Salt herself is a bad egg and drops her down the garbage chute with the rest of the day's rejects. The chocolate eggs themselves are almost an afterthought next to the spectacle, but they're a genuinely lovely little confection: a gilded shell hiding something soft underneath, exactly the kind of "great delicacy" a factory like this would produce.
Ingredients
- For the filling:
Method
- Temper the chocolate and coat the inside of each half of an egg-shaped mold in a thin, even layer. Chill until fully set, then repeat for a second coat.
- Once firm, unmold carefully and fill one half with the ganache or caramel.
- Warm the rim of the other half slightly and press the two halves together to seal into a whole egg.
- Brush the gold luster dust, mixed with a few drops of vodka, over the outside of each egg until it gleams properly golden.
- Set them out on a nest of shredded coconut or crinkle paper, and let anyone misbehaving eye the nearest trapdoor nervously.
