Violet's Three-Course-Dinner Gum
Serve when
Serve it course by course, out loud, exactly as Violet narrates it — 'tomato soup... roast beef and baked potato... blueberry pie and cream' — and stop before dessert if you'd rather not turn blue.
In the movie
Theatrical
- 01:11:23 Willy Wonka's experimental stick of gum, still not quite finished, delivers an entire three-course meal as you chew it: tomato soup, then roast beef with a baked potato, then blueberry pie and cream — Violet Beauregarde ignores every warning, chews through all three courses, and swells into a giant blueberry before dessert is even finished.
Wonka warns Violet outright that the gum isn't finished — it goes wrong on the dessert course — and she chews through his warning without slowing down, an entire three-course meal delivered stick by stick until her face turns blue and the rest of her follows. It's the film's sharpest bit of physical comedy and its cleanest morality tale: the one course Wonka can't yet control is the one course Violet insists on reaching. This version keeps all three courses (the good parts) and skips the swelling (the bad part).
Ingredients
- For the tomato soup course:
- For the roast beef and potato course:
- For the blueberry pie and cream course:
Method
- This one is a tasting menu, not a single dish: plate all three "courses" ahead of time in miniature so they can be served back to back, the way the gum delivers them.
- Pour the warm tomato soup into a small cup or shot glass.
- Plate a thin slice of roast beef with a bite of roasted potato and a dab of sour cream.
- Cut a small square of blueberry pie and top it with a spoonful of whipped cream.
- Serve all three in sequence, narrating each course as it lands — soup, then roast, then pie — and stop there. No fourth course. Ever.
