Method
- Toast the baguette slices until crisp and lightly golden.
- Spread half the toasts with a thin layer of goat cheese and half with a thin layer of fig jam.
- Top each with a slice of pâté or terrine, folded neatly to fit the toast.
- Finish each canapé with a few thyme leaves.
- Arrange on a serving tray and pass while guests are still standing and talking.
Substitutions
- Pâté or terrine: A good country-style liver pâté from a specialty grocer is the closest match; a simple chicken liver mousse works as a lighter alternative.
