The box of chocolates is the film's central prop — fate as a candy assortment. Making them at home with mixed coatings honors the rule: identical outside, all different inside, and you never know what you're gonna get.

Ingredients

8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
½ cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
Pinch of salt
Assorted coatings so nobody knows what they're gonna get — cocoa, chopped pecans, toasted coconut, powdered sugar, sprinkles

Method

Heat the cream to a bare simmer; pour over the chocolate and butter and stand 2 minutes, then stir smooth. Add the salt.
Chill until scoopable, about 2 hours.
Roll into balls and coat each one differently — the whole point is the lottery. Dust your palms with cocoa and work in small batches straight from the fridge — warm hands melt ganache fast.
Box them in paper cups, mixed at random, no map on the lid.
Offer them to strangers. Tell them about your mama.
