Lieutenant Dan's Ice Cream
Serve when
Serve it in a paper cup, offered straight out like Forrest does — 'Lieutenant Dan, ice cream' — whether or not he wants it.
In the movie
Theatrical
- 00:57:15 Recovering from his wound, Forrest gets all the ice cream he can eat and carries a cup over to Lieutenant Dan in the next bed — 'Lieutenant Dan, I got you some ice cream.'
The only good thing about being wounded, Forrest says, is the ice cream — and the film turns that small hospital comfort into one of its gentlest images, Forrest holding a cup out to a friend who isn't ready to be comforted yet.
